How does the doctor keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?

Dr. Dandois is extensively trained but, because dentistry is constantly changing, he does a number of things to stay up-to-date on all of the current findings. First, he frequently attends continuing education courses that focus on the latest in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?

When you first visit our practice, Dr. Dandois recommends visiting every six months. If you take good care of your teeth, we may adjust this time period.

At what age should my children first see a dentist?

We would like to see children after their third birthday. At this time, Dr. Dandois will perform just a visual exam to see how their teeth are doing. When your child is older, we will complete a more comprehensive exam.

What precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?

There are a number of things we do in our office to ensure patient safety. First, we offer the best and most proven services, tools, and products available in dentistry. We know they will keep you pain-free and comfortable while we work. They are also extremely safe. In addition, we offer digital radiography since it reduces the risk of radiation exposure by 90%. Nitrous and IV/oral sedation are also extremely safe to use. As a safeguard, we monitor your heart and brain activity using EKG and pulsoximeter monitors when you request these amenities.

We keep up-to-date on the latest sterilization procedures and research. Our instruments are thoroughly sterilized in accordance with ADA accepted guidelines and we have a sterilization center where we can maximize efficient sterilization and minimize the chance of contamination through human error.

If you have other questions about safety, sedation or sterilization, Dr. Dandois would be happy to talk to you.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Yes! You should be very concerned about bleeding gums, especially if you haven’t had a checkup in a while. While it may seem harmless, bleeding gums may indicate a variety of serious health problems, including gum disease. Call us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment with Dr. Dandois so he can analyze the cause of the bleeding.

I really do not like visiting the dentist, is there anything you can do to help me relax?

Dr. Dandois is noted for his gentle touch and our team goes to great lengths to make your visit relaxed. Still, many people are jittery about coming to see us. Some will even put off an appointment (exposing themselves to more serious dental problems) rather than see a dentist. When tense patients do visit, their nervousness makes it hard for us to do our job well. If you have had a past traumatic dental experience, difficulty becoming numb, a bad gag reflex, very sensitive teeth, or complex dental problems, we can offer sedation dentistry.

First, we offer nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help you relax. When you request this, we’ll begin by placing a small inhaler of pure oxygen over your nose. After a few minutes, we’ll introduce nitrous oxide. This causes you to feel light-headed and then comfortably warm. You’ll be completely conscious throughout the procedure and we’ll ask how you feel so we can adjust the flow of nitrous. At the end of our treatment, you will feel normal and be able to walk out of our office.

If you want little to no memory of your visit, or if we need to perform extensive treatment, we will recommend IV or oral sedation. For this service, we request that a companion accompany you to the office. With IV sedation, we administer a medication directly into your blood stream. With oral sedation, we will give you a small pill an hour before your dental appointment. While you won’t be completely unconscious for either, you probably won’t realize that we are performing treatments on you. Once complete, your companion can escort you home to relax.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

These days, there are a variety of orthodontic products on the market. Many are stronger and less noticeable than the braces of the past. If braces are necessary, Dr. Dandois can suggest braces with clear or tooth colored brackets instead of stainless steel brackets.

Although orthodontic devices are less intrusive than they were in the past, many people want to improve the appearance of their front teeth more quickly and comfortably. That’s why Dr. Dandois offers Invisalign®, a method that straightens your teeth over a few appointments. He may also recommend Feldspathic laminate veneers to change the size, shape and color of your teeth.

If you would like to enhance the appearance of your smile, call us so we can schedule an appointment with Dr. Dandois. After listening to your goals and concerns, he can suggest the best way to help you straighten your smile.

What are Smile Analysis and Smile Design?

In a smile analysis, we look at all the factors that compose a smile: the shape of a smile, the size, the smile line, and the position of your teeth, lips, and gums when you smile. We listen to what you want to accomplish and any concerns you may have. Once we have this information, we can provide a custom smile design.

Using our digital imaging system, Dr. Dandois will generate an image of your new smile, review the smile design results with you, and discuss the next steps to make it happen.
